CVE-2022-27966

Local code execution via unquoted process path

Published Mar 31, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Binary hijacking in NetSarang Xshell 7.0.0099 and earlier allows local users to execute arbitrary code via a crafted executable. The process-launch code supplies an unquoted executable path to CreateProcessW, permitting Windows path parsing to select an attacker-controlled .exe. Exploitation requires local administrative privileges and user interaction; successful code runs with the privileges of the Xshell process.
