Authenticated command execution via IPv6 parameter metacharacters
Published Mar 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
OS command injection in NETGEAR R8500 firmware 1.0.2.158 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands through ipv6_fix.cgi. The handler accepts shell metacharacters in the ipv6_wan_ipaddr, ipv6_lan_ipaddr, ipv6_wan_length, or ipv6_lan_length parameter without neutralization. Access to the authenticated management interface is required, and successful injection can start services such as telnetd or run other commands.
