Authenticated command execution via password parameter metacharacters

OS command injection in NETGEAR R8500 firmware 1.0.2.158 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands via password.cgi. The password handler passes the sysNewPasswd and sysConfirmPasswd parameters to a shell without neutralizing metacharacters, so crafted password values become commands. Access to the authenticated web management interface is required, and successful injection provides device-level command execution, including starting telnetd.
