Credential theft via CRLF memcache command injection

Published Apr 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2026

Memcache command injection in Zimbra Collaboration 8.8.15 and 9.0 allows remote attackers to steal cleartext account credentials. The reverse proxy places URL-derived usernames into line-oriented Memcached lookups without escaping CRLF, so injected commands can poison predictable route keys. Default configurations are exposed without authentication or user interaction; a victim's next IMAP or POP3 login sends cleartext credentials to an attacker-controlled server.
