Stored XSS via forged footer updates
Published Apr 28, 2022 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Cross-site request forgery in Shea Bunge Footer Text 2.0.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to store XSS payloads in site footers. The dashboard footer editor accepts a forged state-changing request without CSRF validation and saves attacker-supplied footer content for front-end rendering. Exploitation requires an authorized administrator to visit attacker-controlled content, after which malicious script executes for visitors wherever the theme calls the plugin's footer template tag.
