Memory disclosure via unchecked media description length
Published Apr 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in libsapeextractor on Samsung Mobile Devices Q(10), R(11), and S(12) allows local users to read process memory. The sapefd_parse_meta_DESCRIPTION function fails to validate buffer length before parsing the DESCRIPTION property from an untrusted media file. A crafted file must reach the local media extractor; the read crosses the intended buffer boundary and exposes adjacent process memory without enabling data modification.
