Remote code execution via crafted video underflow
Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 22, 2025
Integer underflow in Meta WhatsApp mobile apps before 2.22.16.2 on Android and before 2.22.15.9 on iOS allows remote attackers to execute code. The Video File Handler performs an undisclosed arithmetic operation that underflows while processing attacker-controlled video data. Recipient playback is required; successful exploitation executes code in the application's context, but Meta has not published the affected function or calculation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
