Server crash via stale virtual-column expression
Published Apr 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in affected MariaDB Server releases allows remote attackers to crash the server through virtual-column operations. When a cached table is reopened, VDec processes a stale virtual-column expression containing an item that was allocated outside the expression arena and freed prematurely. Triggering the fault requires SQL operations on a table whose virtual-column expression reaches the affected decimal conversion path, and the bounded consequence is a database-server crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
