Database process crash via malformed window functions
Published Apr 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Denial of service in affected MariaDB Server releases allows remote attackers to crash mysqld via a crafted window-function query. The compare_order_elements function assumes both ordering operands are field items; crafted window specifications violate that assertion. Reachability requires the ability to submit SQL statements to the server, and successful exploitation interrupts database service without reported data disclosure or modification.
