CVE-2022-2739Network attack vector

Environment-variable disclosure via shared mutable defaults

Published Sep 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Information disclosure in Podman 1.6.4-32.el7_9 for RHEL 7 allows remote authenticated users to read container environment variables. The pkg/spec/spec.go createConfigToOCISpec function modifies the shared DefaultEnvVariables value without copying it, so later API-created containers inherit earlier containers' values. Exploitation requires control of a subsequent container created soon after another through the Varlink or Docker-compatible REST API, and exposes only prior container environment data.
