Database crash via null query arena
Published Apr 12, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Denial of service in MariaDB Server allows remote attackers to crash the database process by submitting a crafted SQL statement. During DEFAULT() evaluation on a view, Field::set_default passes a null arena to Query_arena::set_query_arena, causing a segmentation fault. The statement must reach SQL execution and reference a view column with a default value; successful exploitation terminates the server process and interrupts database availability.
