Stored XSS via unescaped backup settings
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in WP STAGING before 2.9.18 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through crafted backup settings. The settings handler stores values such as maxFileSize and cloneName without adequate sanitization, then renders them into administrative pages without output escaping. Administrator-level access and a later page view are required, allowing script execution in the viewing user's browser even when unfiltered_html is disabled.
