Local file disclosure via resolved XML entities
Published Mar 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
XXE in CVRF-CSAF-Converter before 1.0.0-rc2 allows attackers to disclose local files through crafted XML input. The _open_and_validate_file method passed input directly to lxml.objectify.parse, whose default parser resolved external entities and embedded referenced file contents in the generated document. Exploitation requires a user to process the attacker-supplied XML and expose the resulting output; the demonstrated consequence is local-file disclosure.
