CVE-2022-27177Network attack vector

Authenticated information disclosure via Python format evaluation

Published Apr 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Externally controlled format strings in Netflix ConsoleMe before 1.2.2 allow remote authenticated users to disclose application data. The self-service permissions update workflow passes user-controlled text to str.format with replacement values, enabling format-field attribute access; the fix replaces that operation with string.Template.safe_substitute. An authenticated ConsoleMe account is required, and exposed values can include on-instance AWS credentials granting access to other IAM roles.
