Code execution via application-enabled PHP upload
Published Apr 12, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in express-fileupload 1.3.1 allows remote attackers to execute code by submitting a crafted PHP file. The middleware exposes uploaded files and an mv method to application code; execution requires application logic to save attacker-controlled PHP in a PHP-executable location without validating its type. The maintainer disputes that this behavior is a library flaw because filename policy, destination selection, and renaming belong to the consuming application.
