Account takeover via stale sessions
Published Aug 8, 2022 · Updated Mar 27, 2026
Insufficient session expiration in Cockpit CMS before 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to retain access and change account details via stale sessions. The application continues to accept requests from an existing session after an administrator changes the associated password, instead of invalidating that session. An attacker holding the previously issued session can therefore modify account information after the password reset; the advisory does not document broader impact beyond those authenticated actions.
