Local SYSTEM escalation via unquoted service path
Published Apr 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Unquoted service path in Fujitsu PlugFree Network 7.3.0.3 and earlier allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges through PFNService.exe. The PFNService service registration omits quotation marks around the PFNService.exe path, causing Windows to probe earlier path components as executables. A low-privileged local user who can place an executable in an earlier writable component can execute code as SYSTEM and control the host.
