Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Mar 31, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Unquoted service path handling in FreeFtpd 1.0.13 and earlier allows local users to execute processes with elevated privileges. The freeFTPdService registration passes the unquoted C:\Program Files\freeSSHd\freeFTPdService.exe path to Windows while running as LocalSystem. Exploitation requires a local user to place an executable in an earlier path segment and wait for the automatic service to start.
