Unauthenticated root shell via SetSysTimeCfg stack overflow
Published Apr 7, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in Tenda AC9 firmware 15.03.2.21_cn allows remote attackers to obtain a root shell via an HTTP request. The SetSysTimeCfg handler in the httpd service writes crafted request data beyond a stack buffer; the disclosure does not identify the parameter or copy routine. The management service must be network-reachable; no authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation runs code as root.
