CVE-2022-26860

SMM code execution via crafted SMI input

Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated May 27, 2026

Stack-based buffer overflow in Dell Client Platform BIOS allows local users to execute arbitrary code in SMM through crafted SMI input. The SMI processing path accepts attacker-controlled input without enforcing the bounds of a stack buffer, allowing the input to overwrite adjacent SMM state. Exploitation requires high local privileges and high attack complexity, and successful execution crosses into the isolated SMM environment with code-level control.
