CVE-2022-26775Network attack vector

Arbitrary code execution via libresolv integer overflow

Published May 26, 2022 · Updated May 30, 2025

Integer overflow in Apple libresolv before macOS Monterey 12.4 allows remote attackers arbitrary code execution or application termination. The libresolv parser performs unsafe arithmetic on attacker-controlled network data, allowing the calculation to wrap and corrupt subsequent processing. Exploitation requires delivery of crafted resolver input to a vulnerable Apple system; consequences range from unexpected application termination to arbitrary code execution, while Apple does not publish a benign active-state indicator.
