Kernel code execution via AMD buffer overflow
Published May 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
A buffer overflow in the AMD component of Apple macOS Monterey before 12.4 allows local users to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple has not disclosed the affected function or input path; its bulletin states only that improved memory handling corrected the overflow. Exploitation requires execution of an application and user interaction, and success crosses from application context into the kernel.
