Kernel code execution via AVEVideoEncoder out-of-bounds write
Published May 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in AVEVideoEncoder in Apple tvOS before 15.5 allows local users to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. AVEVideoEncoder fails to enforce bounds while writing application-controlled data, allowing memory outside the intended buffer to be overwritten. Exploitation requires local execution and user interaction; successful corruption grants kernel-level code execution on affected Apple TV devices.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
