Unauthenticated service interruption via XML entity expansion
Published Mar 7, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
XML entity expansion in Tryton trytond and proteus allows remote attackers to exhaust server resources through crafted XML-RPC. The XML-RPC parser expands recursively defined DTD entities without a limit, multiplying a small request until memory and CPU are consumed. No authentication or user interaction is required, and the reported consequence is service interruption rather than data access or modification.
