Stored XSS via unescaped asset category labels
Published Apr 19, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Stored XSS in Liferay Portal 7.3.3 through 7.4.0 and Liferay DXP 7.3 lets remote authenticated users run script via category names. The asset categories selector's page.jsp passes the selected item label to clay:label without HTML escaping, causing a crafted category name to render as markup. Exploitation requires category-naming access and a victim who opens the selector; the script then runs in that victim's browser under the site's origin.
