Local privilege escalation via incorrect bounds check
Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek rpmb on Android 11.0 and 12.0 allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. The rpmb component applies an incorrect bounds check before writing, allowing data outside the intended buffer; MediaTek does not identify the affected function or input. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and can elevate the attacking process locally.
