Local information disclosure via overflowing vow calculation
Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
An out-of-bounds read in MediaTek vow on affected chipsets running Android 11.0 or 12.0 allows local users to disclose memory. The vow component performs an integer calculation that can overflow and then uses the wrapped result in a read beyond the intended memory boundary. Exploitation requires System execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and is limited to information disclosure rather than modification or service interruption.
