Local privilege escalation via VOW out-of-bounds write
Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
MediaTek VOW on affected Android 11.0 and 12.0 chipsets contains an out-of-bounds write that allows local users to escalate privileges. The VOW component omits a bounds check before writing input-derived data, allowing the write to exceed its destination buffer. Exploitation requires System execution privileges and no user interaction; successful exploitation grants elevated local privileges.
