Local privilege escalation via race-triggered use-after-free
Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in MediaTek apusys on Android 12.0 allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges through a race condition. Concurrent execution paths access an apusys object without adequate synchronization, allowing one path to free it while another still uses it. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges and no user interaction; successful abuse elevates the local user's privileges.
