Local privilege escalation via unchecked buffer write
Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek apusys on Android 12.0 allows local users with System privileges to gain elevated privileges. The apusys component writes beyond a buffer because it fails to check input bounds before performing the write. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges but no user interaction and can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
