Local privilege escalation via mailbox bounds-check omission
Published Aug 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek mailbox on Android 11.0, 12.0 and Yocto 3.1, 3.3 allows local users to elevate privileges. The mailbox component omits a bounds check before writing input, permitting a write beyond the intended buffer. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges but no user interaction; successful abuse elevates the local execution context.
