Client crash via stale SVG observer pointer
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Use-after-free in Mozilla Firefox before 98, Firefox ESR before 91.7, and Thunderbird before 91.7 allows remote attackers to crash clients via SVG. During SVG text reflow, InvalidateAll iterates raw SVGTextPathObserver pointers after nested frame deletion frees a later observer, then dereferences the stale pointer. Exploitation requires a user to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file; Thunderbird email reading disables scripting, limiting exposure to browser-like contexts.
