CVE-2022-26362

Guest-to-host privilege escalation via premature TLB flush

Published Jun 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

A race condition in all Xen versions allows guest OS users with administrator privileges to control the host via x86 PV page-type acquisition. The _get_page_type() path flushes the TLB too early, allowing a guest to restore a read/write mapping before Xen prohibits write access. Exploitation requires an x86 PV guest and an undue delay at the precise race window; Xen reports that practical control of the timing is unknown.
