CVE-2022-26361

Host denial of service via lost IOMMU mappings

Published Apr 5, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper IOMMU mapping management in Xen allows guest OS users to interrupt the host through DMA from a passed-through PCI device. Xen fails to keep a device's RMRR or AMD-Vi unity-map ranges continuously mapped after activation, so later DMA or interrupts can fault or corrupt memory. Exploitation requires an x86 host using IOMMU hardware and a physical device passed to a guest with an associated reserved range; host-wide service interruption is the established impact.
