Remote code execution via unsanitized multipart filename
Published Jul 17, 2022 · Updated Oct 21, 2025
Path traversal in the ContentResource API in dotCMS 3.0 through 22.02 allows remote attackers to upload files outside temporary storage. The multipart upload handler uses the client-supplied filename for a temporary path without sanitizing traversal sequences, allowing parent-directory components to escape that directory. When anonymous content creation is enabled, no authentication is required to place a JSP under the web root and execute code.
