CVE-2022-2625Network attack vector

Arbitrary code execution via extension object replacement

Published Aug 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Privilege escalation in PostgreSQL before 10.22, 11.17, 12.12, 13.8, and 14.5 allows remote authenticated users to execute code as another role. Affected extension scripts use CREATE OR REPLACE or CREATE IF NOT EXISTS on objects that are not already extension members, allowing an attacker-created object to be replaced and invoked under a victim's role. Exploitation requires schema object-creation permission, an administrator to install or update the extension there, and a victim to use the targeted object; the victim can be a superuser.
