CVE-2022-26086

Local privilege escalation via unrestricted DLL search

Published Nov 11, 2022 · Updated Feb 5, 2025

Uncontrolled DLL search in Intel PresentMon before 1.7.1 allows local users to escalate privileges through dependent-library loading. PresentMon resolves dependent DLLs through the ordinary Windows search path instead of restricting those loads to System32. Exploitation requires low privileges, local access, high-complexity conditions, and user interaction, after which attacker-supplied code runs with PresentMon's elevated rights.
