Code execution via colocated shcore.dll loading
Published Mar 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
DLL hijacking in the WPS Office 10.8.0.5745 installer allows attackers to execute arbitrary code through a planted shcore.dll. The wps.1.9.exe installer automatically loads a file named shcore.dll from its own directory without ensuring that the library is trusted. Exploitation requires a user to place the attacker-prepared DLL beside the installer and then run it; the code receives that user's privileges.
