Contributor-level CSS injection via unauthorized layout updates
Published Sep 5, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Incorrect authorization in nK Visual Portfolio before 2.19.0 allows remote authenticated users to inject CSS into saved layouts. The /visual-portfolio/v1/update_layout REST route accepts a target post_id and persists attacker-controlled data[vp_custom_css] without verifying permission to edit that layout. A Contributor account and REST nonce are required; injected styles can alter pages that render the targeted layout and trigger requests from viewers.
