Authenticated code execution via configuration overwrite
Published Jan 30, 2023 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Code injection in Eta before 2.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code through Express template rendering. renderFile treats the template data object as engine configuration and copies settings["view options"] into renderConfig, letting attacker-controlled varName text enter generated JavaScript. Exploitation requires an application to render templates with user-defined data or a server-side prototype-pollution path; successful execution runs with the hosting process's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
