Local command execution via unquoted package names
Published Jan 24, 2023 · Updated Apr 1, 2025
Command injection in Choo create-choo-electron 2.0.0 and earlier allows local users to execute shell commands through devInstall. The devInstall function joins the supplied package array with spaces and appends the result without quoting or sanitization to an npm command executed by child_process.exec. Exploitation requires code to call the exported function with an attacker-influenced package value, and injected commands run with the Node.js process's privileges.
