Script execution via unsafe tooltip HTML rendering
Published Aug 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Reflected cross-site scripting in Beancount Fava before 1.22.3 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser via a crafted URL. Chart tooltip code passes user-controlled filter-derived strings to innerHTML, causing the browser to parse them as markup instead of text. Exploitation requires a user to open the crafted link and interact with the affected view; successful script runs in that user's Fava origin.
