Remote code execution via unsafe Git pack options
Published Jan 24, 2023 · Updated Apr 1, 2025
Command injection in steveukx simple-git before 3.16.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands through Git methods. The blockUnsafeOperationsPlugin fails to reject attacker-controlled --upload-pack, --receive-pack, clone -u, and push --exec options before passing them to Git. Exploitation requires an application to pass untrusted values into clone(), pull(), push(), or listRemote(), after which Git launches the supplied pack program with the application's privileges.
