CVE-2022-2582Network attack vector

Plaintext recovery via exposed object-metadata hash

Published Dec 27, 2022 · Updated Apr 11, 2025

Information disclosure in AWS SDK for Go v1 before 1.34.0 allows remote authenticated users to recover plaintext from encrypted S3 objects. The s3crypto encryption path stores an unencrypted plaintext hash in S3 object metadata, enabling offline brute-force recovery when that metadata is readable. Read access to the encrypted bucket and guessable plaintext are required; the reported consequence is plaintext recovery without the encryption key.
