Stored XSS via unescaped custom color setting
Published Oct 17, 2022 · Updated May 13, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in Meks Easy Social Share before 1.2.8 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts via plugin settings. The settings handler stores a crafted meks_ess_settings[color][custom_color] value and later renders it without HTML-attribute escaping. Administrator-level access is required, and another user must revisit the settings page; the script then runs in that user's browser even when unfiltered_html is disabled.
