CVE-2022-25641

False signature validation via cross-reference parsing error

Published Aug 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Signature-validation errors in Foxit PDF Reader and Editor before 11.2.2 and PhantomPDF before 10.1.8 allow attackers to hide PDF changes. The parsing engine fails to apply cross-reference information correctly while parsing compressed objects in signed PDFs, so incremental or shadow content is evaluated incorrectly. A user must open a crafted signed PDF; the displayed signature can then misrepresent modified document content as trusted.
