Local privilege escalation via undersized offload array
Published Feb 22, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
A heap out-of-bounds write in Linux kernel 5.4 through 5.6.10 allows local users to gain privileges via crafted nftables rules. nft_fwd_dup_netdev_offload indexes flow->rule->action.entries for each dup or fwd expression, but allocation omits those expressions and leaves the array undersized. Reachability requires CAP_NET_ADMIN, which unprivileged users can obtain inside a new network namespace; exploitation can panic the kernel or elevate privileges.
