File relocation outside uploads via path traversal
Published Oct 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Path traversal in ShortPixel Enable Media Replace before 4.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to move renamed files outside uploads. The media replacement handler accepts dot-dot segments in the location_dir field and uses the resulting path when moving a renamed upload. Administrator-level access and the rename-and-update-links workflow are required; exploitation writes the chosen file outside the uploads directory.
