Privilege escalation via hardcoded session-signing key
Published Mar 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Authentication bypass in FreeTAKServer 1.9.8 allows remote authenticated users to assume administrator identities via forged cookies. Three source locations reuse a hardcoded Flask secret to sign client sessions, letting a crafted cookie replace its UID with an administrator UID. A valid low-privileged session is required, after which the forged identity grants administrator application access and can be replayed across deployments sharing the key.
