Login denial of service via unsafe metadata reads
Published Feb 25, 2022 · Updated Apr 21, 2025
Denial of service in Google fscrypt 0.3.2 and earlier allows local users to prevent other users from logging in via crafted metadata files. The PAM path reads metadata without limiting file size or rejecting FIFOs and symlinks, so oversized input can exhaust memory and special files can hang processing. A local account able to place malicious policy or protector metadata can interrupt subsequent logins, without reported confidentiality or integrity impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
